App For the Common Cold

It used to be that the recommended mantra for health was, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". Now, the Apple iPhone has taken this mantra to another level with a couple of apps that will address everything from anorexia to sunburn, including the dreaded common cold.

We all hate to go to the doctor, but sometimes you feel so miserable that "doing something is better than doing nothing" and that means calling your doctor's office, whining to get in because you need relief right away and are probably going to die without it, and then sitting for a couple of hours amongst all the other sick individuals that are hacking, sneezing and burning up around you, and then wondering why you came in to begin with when the doctor tells you it's just a common cold, go to the drug store and buy this over-the-counter cough medicine and it will just have to run its course and, by the way, it will cost you $70.00 for the doctor to tell you that, not to mention the time you've wasted at the doctor's office when you could have been curled up on the couch at home or lying in bed, at least comfortable and cozy in your misery and not breathing in everyone else's germs at the doc's office.

Now you have another option that is only as far away as your smart phone. iPhone has two apps, one called Home Remedies, that costs just $0.99 and one called 101 Home Remedies, that costs just $1.99. Both of them cover a myriad of ailments from hiccups to chicken pox, tired eyes to bronchitis, coughing to headaches. Each of them will offer several suggestions for any one ailment and all of the remedies have been handed down through families for centuries, unlike the over-the-counter fixes that some drug company is going to charge you an arm and a leg for and that may or may not work anyway. Yes, there are some good medicines out there, but when it comes to something like the common cold, most of them are just a form of comfort to make you feel that you are doing something positive rather than having to just wait for the cold to go away. And none of them treat the cold-they just treat the symptoms-which is exactly what your great-great grandmother was doing when she mixed lemon juice with pure honey in a glass of warm water or tea.

Great-great Grandmas know a thing or two about making someone feel better, so invest in an app or search the internet for home remedies for the most common ailments before heading off to the doctor's office. You might be surprised at what works to make you feel better and home remedies certainly won't hurt you...grandma would never do that!

Sammy is a Grandma to 14 and still depends upon some old-fashioned home remedies to make her loved ones feel better when they are feeling their worst. She also loves to garden and since she lives at least 30 miles (one way) from anywhere, does most of her shopping online to save time and gas money.Garden Harvest Supply is always the first place she looks. She has bought everything there from roll out rubber mulch to an Earthway garden seeder
