Overview Of Treatment Options For Unsightly And Uncomfortable Varicose Veins

Because varicose veins (VVs) often cause pain and cramps, as well as appear unattractive, many people who suffer from them seek treatment. Options for resolving varicosities have expanded over the years, though some measures may be more appropriate than others depending on your circumstances.

This condition is caused by increased blood pressure within the blood vessels. Once your doctor has confirmed its diagnosis - typically, by performing an ultrasound - he or she will discuss the best forms of treatment with you. The goal of this article is not to recommend one approach over another. Instead, we'll provide an overview of your options so you'll be prepared to discuss them with your vascular surgeon.

Vein Ligation And Stripping

Ligation involves tying off the target vein. Incisions are made into your leg above the blood vessel, which is then clamped to inhibit blood flow. Blood will eventually be directed to other superficial veins in your legs, leaving the target vein to slowly atrophy. As this occurs, its appearance through the surface of your skin becomes less pronounced until it disappears. The problem with this approach is that the rate of recurrence is high.

Stripping is more invasive. Here again, two incisions are made above the target vein. It is then clamped and removed. While it is effective for resolving the varicosity, there are less invasive approaches that can accomplish the same goal.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

This method is similar to vein stripping in that the varicose vein is removed. One of the key differences is that the incisions made are tiny; the blood vessel is collapsed and withdrawn through them. The incisions are so small that stitches are usually unnecessary. Also, while stripping is done under general anesthesia, an ambulatory phlebectomy only requires a local anesthetic.

Vein Ablation

This approach is done with a catheter. An incision is made near the target vein, and the catheter is inserted through it. The instrument is equipped with electrodes that heat the blood vessel to the point that it is destroyed. As a result, blood will be unable to pass through the vein, and will be directed through others. The destroyed blood vessel is left inside the leg, where it is gradually absorbed.

Sclerotherapy

Smaller varicose veins can be treated with sclerotherapy. With this method, your doctor injects the target blood vessel with a chemical that irritates its inner wall. The vein becomes inflamed and scarred. As with ablation, the vein will no longer be able to carry blood, and soon collapses to be absorbed by your body. Blood that once passed through the collapsed vein is directed elsewhere.

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)

With EVLT, your surgeon uses a laser fiber to destroy the varicose vein. Here, a small incision is made above the blood vessel, and the laser fiber is inserted through it. Once it is in position within the target vein, the fiber is used to heat the inner wall. This destroys the vein, and causes it to collapse. As with other measures described earlier, the blood vessel is eventually absorbed into your body, and disappears.

Endovenous laser treatment is one of the easiest and quickest treatments methods used by vascular surgeons. In most cases, the entire process can be completed in less than sixty minutes. There is rarely discomfort or pain following the procedure.

Compression Stockings

This is usually the first option most doctors will recommend in treating varicose veins. Depending on the severity of the varicosities, stockings may be sufficient for resolving the problem. They are normally worn around the lower leg (i.e. from the ankle to just below the knee), and apply pressure in a graduated manner. Pressure is greatest near the ankle, and lessens as the stocking extends toward the knee.

This is the least costly form of treatment. Because it does not require surgery, many patients prefer it to more invasive alternatives.

The unattractive appearance and discomfort that typically accompany varicose veins can be treated. Speak with your doctor regarding an appropriate strategy for your condition.

Fibromyalgia Treatment

There is no one treatment for fibromyalgia. In addition, it has to be said that when you treat fibromyalgia, what you are really doing is relieving the symptoms that are associated with the disease. And since fibromyalgia is a multifaceted illness, even the treatment is a conglomeration of different modalities that can help the patient lead a quality life.

It is most beneficial for the patient if they are treated not only to relieve their symptoms, but rather to help them cope and adjust to their illness. In this light, there is a need to combine different kinds of treatment and see which ones work best for the patient. In a way, finding the right combination is achieved through trial and error.

The treatments can be broken down to the use of behaviour therapy, cognitive therapy and medications.

BEHAVIOURAL AND COGNITIVE THERAPY

Patients should learn to deal with their stress so that it does not trigger and of the pain symptoms that are common in patients with fibromyalgia. Without the stress, the patient will remain calm and unable to precipitate any pain. It also wards off feelings of anxiety that is also an aggravating factor in fibromyalgia.

The objective of cognitive therapy is to teach the patient to ward off any negative thoughts and feelings that may trigger the illness. This will also allow them to enjoy their life and have more appreciation for it. They are advised to also keep a pain or symptom journal so that they are able to keep track of the factors that may trigger the pain attacks.

IMPROVED FITNESS

It may also help if the patient is able to do some exercises so that any stiffness and muscle pain can be eased. A patient can start with some low impact exercises and increase in increments as they see fit. It is important though that they be advised not to exercise too much. Walking and swimming is a good start. While Ta'i chi is said to do wonders but you can also start with something simpler, like stretching. A massage can be good too. It eases sore muscles and will probably contribute a sense of wellbeing to patient.

GOOD DIET

A good diet can work wonder for patients with fibromyalgia. For one thing, it fosters a good feeling about one's self. A well balanced diet and holding off on the caffeine may also improve one's ability to sleep. In this way, sleep too, becomes a means of treating with fibromyalgia. A good sleep signifies deep sleep which means that the patient will be rested. This gives him a better chance of waking up rested and refreshed.

MEDICATIONS

The goal of using medications in the treatment of fibromyalgia is to relieve the patients of the symptoms that may hound them because of fibromyalgia. Among these medications are anti depressants, pain relievers, anti-seizure medications and muscle relaxants. Patients should have access to these medications when they are needed. In combination with the other treatment modalities already presented, it makes life for the fibromyalgia patients a little bit more comfortable.

My world fell apart when I developed fibromyalgia, but in developing a way to recover from it I created an amazing career helping others. My methods also aided my recovery when I had a pancreatic tumour, and a malignant melanoma. Having suffered from fibromyalgia symptoms my aim is to help others recover and put the pieces of their life back together only better than it was before. Idiopathic Neuropathy and Treatment Options

Idiopathic neuropathy is a peripheral neuropathy of unknown origin. Unlike compressive neuropathy, which can be traced back to some trauma that damaged the nerves, or diabetic neuropathy, which is invariably a side-effect of the onset of diabetes, idiopathic neuropathy has no known origin. Frustratingly, if there is no known history of peripheral neuropathy in the family line, hereditary neuropathy cannot be ruled out as an option, but is difficult to substantiate.

Regardless of the origin, all neuropathies cause pain and discomfort to the "victim" - normally pain, tingling and numbness in the hands and/or feet. Since idiopathic neuropathy cannot be cured at present, efforts towards treatment should be pursued to alleviate suffering when at all possible. Most treatment options at this point are designed only to bring relief to symptoms, and most of these treatment options are based on medications.

Analgesics such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and aspirin are often used for pain relief for ALL forms of neuropathy. Antidepressants and anticonvulsants can also come into play, as can topical creams like capsaicin. New therapies are in development as well, such as Anodyne Light Therapy and electrostimulation therapy. Anodyne Light Therapy involves the use of an infrared light therapy device to the affected area of the skin, while electrostimulation therapy involves the electric stimulation of nerves in the affected area. Both these therapies are expensive but reportedly painless, and there are devices in both therapies that have been registered with the F.D.A.

Again, since neuropathy is at this point incurable, treatment options are designed to reduce pain and suffering for the afflicted. A healthy diet, tolerable exercise and 8 hours of sleep each night are all recommended strategies for helping the body to do its best to cope with the stresses placed upon it by idiopathic neuropathy.

What A Modern Spa Treatment Can Do For You

The spa isn't what it used to be. We usually associate this word with jacuzzis and hot springs; but a spa nowadays offers lots of treatments that help with improving your skin, getting rid of the signs of aging and even taking off the fat. Here is a rundown on some of the new and improved services many spas offer.

The Magic of Botox

Years after it was first introduced as a way to erase wrinkles, Botox is still the world leader in injectables. It's a non-invasive surgery that helps to turn back the clock. "Non-invasive" means that, unlike plastic surgery, there is no cutting involved. Everything is done without any surgical procedure whatsoever. With Botox, the doctor gives you injections of a virus, but don't worry: it won't hurt you. When the collagen in your skin reacts naturally to this virus, it starts working again and smooths out the wrinkles. It's a perfectly safe treatment; the only downside is that the results aren't permanent. This means that it will give you an excuse to visit the spa more often!

Lose the Flab with Laser Lipolysis

Laser lipolysis is a new take on the old liposuction procedure. While the liposuction sucks fat from your trouble areas, laser lipolysis does this a little differently. Instead, the cannula (the instrument used to suck out the fat) is inserted in the area and a light laser liquefies the fat. This liquid fat can be easily drained from the body. This is lighter variation of lipo, and it gets you back into your routine immediately. You can even go back to work the next day in most cases. Laser lipolysis is nicknamed "Smart lipo" because it's a gentler version of the procedure that can be used for more delicate areas. It also leaves less scarring.

Say Goodbye to Your Old Skin With Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is another recent procedure offered at your local health spa. You probably know that you need to lose your old skin to let the new, healthier skin come in. Lots of our problems with blemishes and bad complexions come from this old layer still hanging around. With microdermabrasion, a special instrument is used to make the top layer of skin smoother. It gets rid of the rough outer layer that's still hanging around and lets the skin underneath breathe. The result is that your face has a smoother, cleaner and more youthful look. This is a simple "lunchtime procedure" that gets great results while not requiring much work. It's something you can get done in no time at all.

If you haven't been to the spa in a while, you should go and see what it has to offer. These medical spas now offer lots of different treatments by skilled staff members. Many people consider them "plastic surgery lite" because they achieve the same results without all the anesthesia and cutting. These procedures are all things you can have done in an afternoon, and you can be back at work the next day. Check one of these places out at your nearest convenience and see what kinds of benefits you can enjoy!

Internal Hemorrhoid Treatment - Getting Permanent Relief

There are several methods of Internal Hemorrhoid Treatment that you can consider if you're suffering from hemorrhoids. A lot of men and women suffer from this condition although not everyone chooses to seek professional diagnosis and treatment. For some people, having such a condition is too embarrassing and often tries to find relief on their own.

However, it is important to remember that some symptoms similar to hemorrhoids may indicate other diseases so it's best to get a proper diagnosis.

You may ask, how can one acquire hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are swollen veins located between the rectum and the anus. The swelling is often a result of a strain such as when a person lifts heavy objects or often experiences constipation. Women who give birth through normal delivery are also prone to a hemorrhoidal condition. When the veins become swollen, these can itch, burn, and bleed.

In worse cases, the swollen veins can become very large and protrude from the anus. When this happens, an external hemorrhoid treatment or a surgical procedure may be necessary. Hemorrhoidectomy or hemorrhoid banding is a common procedure done to remove external hemorrhoids. Laser surgery and laser coagulation can also be done to remove the hemorrhoids without an operation.

Are you suffering from a mild case of hemorrhoids? If yes, then an Internal Hemorrhoid Treatment can work for you. What are examples of these treatments? For one, changing your diet can prove to be a great help in treating hemorrhoids. By eating more fruits and vegetables that contain high fiber, you can prevent frequent constipation which can trigger the hemorrhoids. Drinking plenty of water and natural fruit juices is also wonderful in improving digestion. Sometimes, artificial laxatives can be prescribed for people who experience irregular bowel movements.

Warm sitz baths can be done when hemorrhoids are present to alleviate the discomfort and pain. Here, the anus is immersed in warm water for about 10 to 15 minutes to achieve muscle relaxation. Warm sitz baths can be done two to three times a day and is known to be effective in reducing the swelling in the veins. Topical medications available in the market can also be used to lessen the pain.

External Hemorrhoid Treatment - Get Rid Of Piles In 3 Days

External hemorrhoids! The very name sends shivers down the spine of those who have had it in the past! And poor souls, I can't blame them for combing the markets and virtual world for a really effective hemorrhoid treatment that will actually work!

After all, I am also one of those poor souls who suffered from this condition for decades and decades till I stumbled across this wonderful hemorrhoid treatment a few years back. Read on to know more.

External hemorrhoid treatment and remedy

? One of the main reasons of external hemorrhoids, both in normal men and women and in pregnant women is constipation. So if you can curb your constipation, you will get instant relief from external hemorrhoids.
? You have to consume a diet rich in fiber and for that you have to eat loads and loads of fruits, veggies, legumes, green leafy veggies and drink at least 14 to 16 glasses of water daily.
? Psyllium husk or isabgool taken once or twice a week will also ease and facilitate irritable bowel movement.
? Eat lesser amounts of meat products and particularly avoid red meat.
? Perhaps you don't know this, but those who eat a fiber rich diet right from their young adulthood never suffer from hemorrhoids! So take your cue!
? Moderate to light exercises, Kegel exercises and frequent walking also help to prevent hemorrhoids.
? If the itching, irritation and pain of external hemorrhoids are unbearable, you can soak your under portion i.e. your rectum in a shallow sitz bath.
? You can even add a small quantity of baking soda to the shallow sitz bath which will give you greater relief.
? Another great hemorrhoid treatment is witch hazel or medicated pads soaked in witch hazel solution.

Hemorrhoids can be a pretty painful and irritating anal condition, especially if you are pregnant. Although there are several medications available along with surgical intervention, I personally feel there is no need to take so much pain and experiment with so many different medications, most of which don't work!
